A-B: a bust of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom (Roman Minerva or local Allāt). This bronze sculpture is 12.6 cm in height and dates from the 2nd or 3rd century C.E.
C-E: A bronze statuette of Artemis, goddess of hunting (Roman Diana). Dimensions: 28.4 cm x 8.3 cm (2nd century C.E.).
The provenance of those sculptures is a location called Tell ʾUmm Ḥōrān, an ancient deserted settlement north of Nawā (Darʿā' Governorate).
Alerted in 1955 by an antiquarian to the illegal manifestation of several high-quality artifacts on the art market, the Syrian Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums dispatched two expeditions to the site for the purpose of salvage excavation.
