This ax has a flange for fitting it onto a handle. The exterior of this flange is decorated with reeding that extends in four long points beyond the heel of the ax. The cutting edge of the blade is sharply curved. Such an elaborate weapon may be considered to have been a symbol associated with the exercise of power.
