The double edge of this weapon distinguishes it as a dagger rather than a knife. Blade and hilt were cast in one piece. The hilt was designed to receive inlay of wood, bone, or ivory. Luxury weapons decorated in this manner were part of a very long Near Eastern tradition associated with the exercise of royal power.
