The representation of the goddess Astarte (or Hathor?) on this gold pendant reveals only her head and breasts in relief, while her navel and pubes are discreetly incised. Astarte was the personification of femininity in eastern mythology. The Greeks identified her with Aphrodite and the Romans with Venus.
