Fragment of a Sacrificial Bull

 


Twisted around the forehead and hung over the nape is a chain of circular medallions. The almond-shaped eyes are seen on the inferolateral sides of an inverted triangle occupied by a fanning rosette. 

The head is preserved along with part of the bulky neck. The horns, ears, and muzzle are missing.    

Provenance: al-Hayǧānā. acquired on June 2, 1942. 
Substance: basalte. 
Dimensions: H 19 cm, W 15.4 cm, L 26.4 cm.  
Era: first to second century CE.
