This type of pin with a broad head and an eye in the upper part was generally used to hold clothing in place. Toggle pins were usually made of bronze, but the one shown here is instead made of silver, with the upper part covered in gold leaf. The pin carries parallel grooves forming a decoration above and below the eye. This is a luxury object.
