Emperor - God

 


The fragments on the right are too mutilated for an accurate identification. The head is that of a man with a full short beard, and hair curling closely about the brow. The facial features have been totally disfigured. Weber (p. 92) suggests a representation of Kronos or Septimius Severus posing capite velato


Provenance: al-Hayāt. Found by Butler near a qulayb (kalybe) and acquired by the Museum in 1958.
Era: Roman (3rd century CE).
Substance: basalt.
