An Ancient Mirror Frame (Palmyra)

 

This frame is shaped like the façade of a temple, with a stereotypical triangular pediment ornamented with six small circles. The antae feature ornamental plants, perhaps palmettes. The mirror itself has not survived.

Provenance: Palmyra (hypogeum of Yarḥāy). 
Substance:alabaster. 
Diameters: 16 cm x 8 cm.
Era: Roman.
