A Whirling Dancer

 


This statuette features a girl standing on one leg and pivoting while raising the other leg in the opposite direction. Her neck is tilted to the right. The left upper extremity is extended, while the right is bent to form an acute angle at the elbow, with the corresponding hand resting on her waist. The robe is ample, and the curves are thus partly hidden. 

Provenance: purchased from the antiquarian ʾAnṭūn Daḥdāḥ in 1955.

Dimensions: 15.3 x 8.2 x 4.8 cm. 
Era: 2nd century BCE.
