Tanf I

 

Eight stones carrying Ṣafāʾitic inscriptions were discovered 35 kilometers southeast of at-Tanf and brought to the National Museum of Damascus in 1966. The stones numbered 1 and 2, displayed in the attached photo, are actually the broken parts of the same piece, which carries an inscription, the translation of which is as follows:

To Netān, son of H̱alaf, the hired shepherd. O rich Allāt!

ʿUḏr Allāh was killed! O Allāt, we ask for your retribution!
