Gold Rings

Golden rings were used in antiquity mostly for ornamental purposes and sometimes as honors bestowed on a civil servant. Quality varied according to the status of the holder, with some rings studded with gemstones. As wealth increased, some took the habit of wearing rings on more than one finger and sometimes two rings on the same finger. The National Museum of Damascus has an important collection of golden rings dating all the way back to the Classical era.
