This inscription was located over the door of the south side of the minaret before its demolition; its three lines read as follows:
1. Our lord malik al-ʾumarāʾ, viceroy of the kingdom of Damascus, Tanbak aẓ-Ẓāhirī, has renovated the building of this much-frequented ǧāmiʿ in which the name of Allah exalted shall be mentioned, and of its vaults and halls and plasterwork,
2. may Allah honor his (Tanbak's) supporters, from his own money, under the inspection of his excellency Šams ad-Dīn Sunqur az-Zimām, and he evaluated the compensation of the sayyeds, the muezzins, and reciters,
3. for each muezzin among them, a monthly allocation of sixty dirham according to the stipulation of the wāqif, mu Allah have mercy upon him, in the year 801 (1398-1399 CE), but whoever changes the will after hearing it, the blame will only be on those who made the change (Qurʾān II 181).
