The mosque itself has been restored and renovated several times, but major portions of its miḥrāb at least are probably original.
The stucco features elaborate arabesque decorations combining floral, geometrical, and epigraphical motifs. The miḥrāb's niche is flanked by two spiral colonettes; its arch and spandrels are topped by a band of intricate geometrical designs with Allah, Muḥammad, and the names of the four Rightly-Guided caliphs inscribed from right to left. Two rectangles flanking a central medallion occupy the uppermost quarter of the miḥrāb, and the whole structure is crowned by a trilobar design supporting a stylized lily.
