Bearded Man (ʿAnẖil)

 


A middle-aged man with almond-shaped, wide-open eyes and pursed lips. The skull is covered by short, thick hair, and a beard is indicated by vertical incisions. The nose is chipped off, and the facial features are worn. The piece carries remains of brownish incrustation. 

Provenance:  ʿAnẖilConfiscated by the police on August 25, 1970 to be acquired by the Museum. 
Substance: basalt. 
Dimensions: H 21 cm, W 16.8 cm, D 19 cm. 
Era: first half of the third century CE.
