Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine

 

Category: Solidus. 

Material: pure gold. 

Diameter: 2 cm. 

Approximate weight: 4.4 grams.  

Obverse: Heraclius on the left and a smaller facing bust of Heraclius Constantine on the right. The emperor has a mustache and long beard while his son is depicted with a shorter beard. They are both wearing chlamys and convex crown with a cross over a circle. One more cross is depicted between them.. 

Reverse: a cross consisting of two intersecting lines both ending in vertical small bars (cross potent) is depicted standing on a tiered base. 

Inscriptions: obverse ddNNhERACLIYSEThERA[CONSTPPAV] (Our Lords Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine, Perpetui Augusti), reverse VICTORIA [AVG]Y (victory of Augustus). The exergue states: CONOB, a reference to Constantinople's mint where the coin was struck.
