Dār al-Ḥadīṯ al-ʾAšrafīyyā al-Barrānīyyā: Inscription

 

Four lines are inscribed on the lintel of the door, on the street side, 125 by 38 cm:

۱. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم. أوقفَ هذه المدرسة المباركة ابتغا لوجه الله تعالى المولى

۲.  السلطان العالم العادل المظفّر المؤيّد المنصور الملك الأشرف مظفّر الدين أبو الفتح موسى ابن المولى

۳. السلطان الملك العادل سيف الدين أبي بكر بن أيّوب تقبّل اللهُ مِنْهُ وأثابَهُ الجنّةَ على الحنابلة الواردين، وأوقَفَ عليها

٤.  نصفَ دير أرعى بالبقاع العزيزي وريعها ومزارعها في سنة أربع وثلاثين وستمائة، الله محمد

1. In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate… has founded as a waqf this blessed madrasā. Seeking the pleasure of Allah Almighty, the lord,

2. the sultan, erudite, just, victorious, assisted (by Allah) the victor, al-malik al-ʾAšraf Muẓaffar ad-Dīn abu all-Fatḥ Mūsā, son of the lord,

3. the sultan al-malik al-ʿĀdil Sayf ad-Dīn Abī Bakr, son of ʾAyyūb, may Allah accept it from him for the Ḥanbalites that are guests there, and he has given as waqf to it

4. the half of Dayr ʾArʿā in al-Bikāʿ al-ʿĀzīzī, and its revenue and its fields, in the year 634 (1236-1237 CE) . Allah Muḥammad.
