Container and Seal

 


Seals were used for securing any receptacle in which the owner wanted to conceal something. This is a stone container, covered with a coating of clay, subsequently stamped with seals. 


Provenance: Tell Ṣabī ʾAbyaḍ
Substance: stone and clay. 
Era: Neolithic (circa 5200 BC). 
Dimensions: 13.5 x 7 x 4 cm (container), 11.5 x 9 x 5 cm (seal).
