The National Museum of Damascus

A-B: a bust of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom (Roman Minerva or local Allat). This bronze sculpture is 12.6 cm in height and dates from the 2nd or 3rd century C.E.

C-E: A bronze statuette of Artemis, Goddess of Hunting (Roman Diana). Dimensions: 28.4 cm (height) x 8.3 cm (width). It belongs to the 2nd century C.E.

The provenance of those sculptures is as location called Tell Umm Hauran, an ancient deserted settlement north of Nawa (Daraa' Governorate).

Alerted in 1955 by an antiquarian of the illegal manifestation of several high quality artifacts on the art market, the Syrian General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums sponsored two campaigns to the site for the purpose of salvage excavation.

كنوز متحف دمشق الوطني: آلهة سوريا الإغريقيّة

اللقطتان A و B لربّة الحكمة Athena الإغريقيّة أو Minerva الرومانيّة ويقابلهما محليّاً اللات. التمثال من البرونز بارتفاع ١٢٬٦ سم ويعود للقرن الثاني أو الثالث الميلادي.

اللقطات C-E لربّة الصيد الإغريقيّة أرطاميس Artemis ويقابلها لدى الرومان Diana. التمثال برونزي كسابقه بارتفاع ٢٨٬٤ سم وعرض ٨٬٣ سم ويعود للقرن الثاني الميلادي.

مصدر النحتين تلّ أم حوران الواقعة شمال نوى في محافظة درعا. تنبّهت المديريّة العامّة للآثار والمتاحف للخطر المحدق بهذا الموقع بعد ظهور العديد من التحف الفنيّة في أسواق دمشق عام ١٩٥٥ ممّا يعني قيام البعض بالتنقيب خلسة لمآرب ماديّة شخصيّة وقامت المديريّة بناء عليه بإرسال بعثتين بهدف التقصّي وإجراء الحفريّات لإنقاذ ما يمكن إنقاذه.
