Minaret of the Mosque of Tingiz

The mosque of Tingiz (Tankiz)  was built in the first half of the 14th century by the celebrated Viceroy of Damascus whose tomb was annexed to the edifice. Only its minaret exists in its original state. This is without doubt one of the most beautiful of Mamlūk minarets, with its elegant proportions and somber beauty. It introduced Damascus to the use of turquoise tile decoration.
