Funerary Madrasa an-Nūrīya

Strong and clear-lined, this is a fitting monument for the hero it honors.

The alveolate style of the dome is seen in several Iraqi monuments, and calls to mind the Mesopotamian origin of the Zangid emirs, who were the masters of Mosul before coming to Syria. In the background to the left can be seen the domes of the caravansary of ʾAsʿad Pāša (18th century); in the center and right, the roofs of the sūq rebuilt in the 19th century by Madḥat Pāša
