Zāwīya al-Jabbāwīyya: Glazed Tiles

The glazed tiles decorated with floral patterns and calligraphy show that Iranian art is not absent in Damascus.

In the southern part of the Maydān, toward Bawwābat Allāh (Gate of God), a group of mystics of the 16th century built this small zāwīya. Today it is known as Masṭabat Saʿd ad-Dīn. Preserved on its qibla (south) wall is a fine group of tiles in floral and calligraphic decorations.
