Mosque of Šayẖ Muḥyi ad-Dīn

Šarkasīyya: Mosque of Šayẖ Muḥyi ad-Dīn. It contains the tomb of the famous Andalusian mystic, Muḥyi ad-Dīn ibn -al-ʿArabi

Built by order of Sultan Selim I in 1518, this is one of the first Ottoman monuments in Damascus. It is composed of a larger prayer-hall with granite columns and a mausoleum with a beautiful tiled dome over the tomb of ibn -al-ʿArabi (1165 - 1240 CE). To its Mamlūk style minaret, a Turkish spire was added later. Facing the doorway is a two domed building which serves as a kitchen and dining room for the use of pilgrims and poors. Until its recent transfer to Algeria, the body of the ʿAbd al-Qādir, the Algerian prince, had also rested there.
