H̱ān az-Zayt (Caranansary of Oil) at Sūq Madḥat Pāša

This is one of several Ottoman caravansaries in Damascus. Constructed towards the end of the 16th century, its style is classical Turkish as displayed by two levels of galerie covered by twenty cupolas. It also follows Syrian traditions with alternating courses of basalt and white limestone in its façade. Like many Ottoman ẖāns, it owes to its remarkably functional character the fact it is still in use today.
