Intérieur d'un palais à Damas

Interior of a palace in Damascus (first half of the 19th century); marble paving, sofas covered with colored material, wainscoting of floral decorations, wood ceiling painted with geometric patterns - all give a note of elegance to the mysterious dwelling.

This engraving is taken from Arabie by Noël Desvergers. The size of the room and the richness and elegance of its decoration depict the romantic East of Lamartine, to which the inviolable character of Damascus adds a supplementary prestige of mystery.
